Probably the most key hallmark of any movement of God over all the years is that of “extraordinary prayer.”

We want Ichthus to be characterized by this as well.

We are very humbled by this goal and have been encouraged to add one or two new emphases to our “ordinary” prayer practices as a practical way to grow in the “extra-ordinary.” May God meet you more and more in your own practice or personal prayer, and we’d love you to join anytime we gather together to pray (see below)!

Prayer Walks

““This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come; your will be done.’” (Jesus in Matthew 6:9-10)

Prayer-walking is an active type of prayer where we ask God to bring his “kingdom” (the goodness and blessing that result when we trust he knows what he’s talking about and do it) to places as we walk through them. We aim to have God himself lead these walks… paying attention to our surroundings, listening together for insight from God, and praying or declaring this back to God as best we can. In our one semester of practicing these, we’ve already seen clear evidence of the Holy Spirit’s leading, which has been really fun.

Extended Prayer

We plan to gather once a month for an extended prayer time— three to four hours of guided time to pray for the world, our town and campus communities, and for each other and our physical/emotional/spiritual needs. Much like prayer walks, we will do our best to ask God to lead these times and learn to hear his voice and how he answers and guides. The real fun of prayer is when the power of God is at work in and through them— that’s what we’re going for.
